Redesign: Designing for Low Packaging Waste in Hong Kong

Day 1 - 5th Oct | 16:05 - 16:45

Location: Sustainable Resources Theatre

Circular Economy

Overview

These days, packaging design is about more than just aesthetics and functionality. Both consumers and companies are also looking at the amount of material in packaging, as well as what will happen to it when it is no longer needed. Minimising packaging is the goal, but how are companies balancing this with packaging that looks good, functions well and is easily recyclable?

Learnings

  • The opportunity for brands to differentiate themselves through sustainable packaging
  • Moving towards packaging sustainability throughout all elements of the business
  • The challenges of educating both consumers and employees on packaging to reach corporate sustainability goals

Post Event Actions

  • Assess your packaging portfolio, both primary and secondary, to see where improvements can be made, flagging worst offenders, identifying immediate opportunities and planning for longer-term changes
  • Ensure your marketing material shares the correct information, is easy to understand and portrays your sustainability messaging effectively
  • Bring people aboard from across the organisation. A sustainable packaging effort cannot be carried by the sustainability/ procurement functions alone.
