We need to rapidly scale and speed up business action and policy ambition for a nature-positive, net-zero and equitable world. Biodiversity underpins the health of both the planet and people.
Businesses depend on a healthy planet to provide a stable operating environment, customers and workforces, and the natural resources necessary for production – food, fiber, water, minerals, building materials and more. But nature is at a tipping point.
We need a fundamental re-wiring of our economic system to recognise and reward long-term performance on people and planet. From all stakeholders, incl. investors and governments.
Governments must implement ambitious policies that reflect a vision of the sustainable economy to which we aspire – this includes increasing the current ambition in the CBD Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, which is THE opportunity to adopt a transformative agreement at a global level.
We need to ensure that the adequate financial resources are available.

Steps for companies to understand what they can do to help reverse nature loss:
Assess: It is important that companies assess their impacts and dependencies on nature to ensure they are committing and acting on the most material ones.
Commit: Make meaningful, informed and public commitments through credible platforms and set measurable targets across priority locations for how much the company will contribute to restore ecosystems.
Act: Preventing impact from happening in the first place or eliminating the impact entirely is already a significant contribution. Actively working – in partnership with others – to restore ecosystems is one part of the solution, and investing in nature-based, inclusive and holistic solutions is another way to contribute. Ultimately, a transformation is required to become nature-positive across the value chain aiming to “give back more than you take”.
Advocate: Engage in activities to advocate for ambitious government policies that will scale and speed up further positive business action.
