Aligning Hong Kong and China’s Energy Sector Transition: Regional Collaborations for Our Future in Renewables

Day 1 - 5th Oct | 11:20 - 12:10

Location: Sustainable Partnerships Theatre

Decarbonisation

Overview

It has been close to two years since China pledged to peak carbon emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. What progress has been made so far? This panel will discuss Hong Kong’s energy transition in line with national ambitions – implications and opportunities for Hong Kong’s power sector, gaps and solutions in renewable energy funding and procurement, and the needs and challenges of increasing energy storage.

Learnings

  • What role does Hong Kong’s power sector play, in line with China’s energy commitments as part of its 14th Five Year Plan? What business strategies, policies and technologies are being adopted to accelerate the decarbonisation of energy?
  • How can Hong Kong best collaborate and fast-track integration with the GBA? What opportunities exist in the competitive market of renewables? What are the barriers, and how can they be overcome?
  • Are there any out-of-the-box solutions that Hong Kong could consider?

Post Event Actions

  • Gain insights on the state of play by Hong Kong and China’s energy sector, and how we can best accelerate our own and national net-zero targets via regional collaborations for renewables.
  • Consider how your company and industry can step up decarbonisation ambitions, in tandem with the region’s rapid transition to cleaner energy sources.
