Philo Alto (李家仁) is the founder of Asia Value Advisors (AVA), a purpose-driven philanthropic capital advisory firm based in Hong Kong. Through bespoke advisory services, convening, and research, AVA seeks to inform and inspire individuals and organisations to create sustainable impacts.

His work included advising The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust on program curation for its inaugural Philanthropy for Better Cities Forum in 2016 with 60 globally-renowned speakers and attracting over 1,300 delegates; convening an impact investing forum with the Rockefeller Foundation to grow impact investing in Asia; and, hosting a Foundation Philanthropy Roundtable to explore what’s next in creating sustainable value.

Philo has also co-authored two publications: Mind the Gap: Lessons and Findings from EngageHK and Adopting the London Principles: Policy Considerations to Grow Impact Investing in HK.  His work has been cited in books such as Problem Solving: HBS Alumni Making a Difference in the World (2019) and The Power of Impact Investing.

Philo received his MBA and MPA from Harvard Business School and Harvard Kennedy School. He was an investment banker with Goldman Sachs and Citibank prior to founding AVA. Among his voluntary engagements include serving as a board chairman of the Harvard Club of Hong Kong Education Fund, an advisor to Sustainable Finance Initiative, Social Ventures Hong Kong and Shared Value Initiative Hong Kong, and an officer of the HBS Association of Hong Kong. He also serves as a global editor advisory board of Impact Entrepreneur magazine (US) and the Alliance magazine (UK).

Jeffrey Andrews

An Indian by descent, Hong Kong-born and raised Jeffrey Andrews is one of the first ethnic minority registered social workers in Hong Kong. Committed to helping refugees and minority rights, in 2014 he travelled to the United Nations in Geneva to speak about the issues of segregated schools. He has been featured in numerous documentaries, news articles, TV programmes. He has received The Secretary for Home Affairs’ Commendation awarded in recognition of his dedicated service and outstanding contributions to the enhancement of racial harmony and integration to Hong Kong. Recently been selected as 2019 JCI Top Outstanding young persons and also 2019 Cathay Pacific’s Change Makers award and his beloved football team Manchester United recognised him as one of 7 Global heroes. He has been with Christian Action’s Centre for refugees for 11 years as a social worker and now assistant manager.

My Sustainability Goals for 2021:

Promote understanding and action in addressing systemic racism for advancements through community led initiatives within the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) framework.

Pushing diversity and inclusion practices at the heart of racial equity through engaging different sectors of society to Integrate the elimination of Systemic Racism, and highlight racial and ethnic discrimination, in order to bring about change to corporate and community responsibility and continuing to provide platform for dialogues, racial and cultural bridging initiatives.

Ashley Bang

Ashley is a data scientist who is passionate about applying spatial and statistical modeling techniques to inform conservation strategies and climate change policies. As a Fulbright Research Fellow and NOAA Hollings Scholar, she has gone from characterizing critical habitats of salmon in Alaska to quantifying coral reef resilience in Taiwan. Ashley holds a degree in Geology and Biology from Brown University.

My Sustainability Goals for 2021:

1. To increase the representation and inclusion of women in the workforce. Eliminate unconscious bias and stereotypes by providing training and assisting companies in implementing higher criteria around HR procedures and policies such as hiring, promotion and appraisal reviews. Create more inclusive workplaces where quotas are not the primary driver, rather implementing these changes at their overall core objectives.

2. To drive a positive impact in the workforce by implementing more creative and tailored D&I strategies that can trigger a more inclusive and diverse organisational culture.

3. Create corporate awareness and keep working with the government in addressing gender equality issues, especially around working mothers.

Jean-Marc Champagne

Head of Environmental Finance and Bankable Nature Solutions Asia

Jean-Marc’s main focus is heading up WWF’s newly launched Bankable Nature Solutions initiative for Asia, which aims to originate and develop scalable bankable projects with conservation impact. He is also managing the Asia-Pacific portion of the origination facility for the €160 million Dutch Fund for Climate and Development.

He was instrumental in launching the Climate Impact Asia Fund in January 2020 and is a member of its Investment Advisory Committee. He also advises institutional investors, lenders, and underwriters on the financial and economic risks and opportunities related to climate change and environmental issues.

Prior to WWF, he spent 17 years in the financial industry advising institutional investors on equities and equity derivatives. He started his investment banking career in 1997 with Merrill Lynch in New York City and has been based in Hong Kong since 2004, working for BNP Paribas and Jefferies. He graduated from Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York.

Chung Sum Yue Natalie is an environmentalist and social innovator born and raised in Hong Kong, currently pursuing MPhil in Environmental Change and Management at University of Oxford as the Millennium Scholar. Inspired by a polar explorer since young, Natalie has dedicated her life for climate action. At the age of 18, she co-founded “V’air Hong Kong” to promote sustainable ecotourism for climate change mitigation. She serves as a member at the Council for Sustainable Development and the Green Tech Fund Assessment Committee of the HKSAR Government.

My Sustainability Goals for 2021:

My sustainability goal is to stimulate green recovery post COVID-19, ensuring that resources are dedicated to building more resilient socioeconomic systems that are equitable and stay within environmental thresholds. I also wish to contribute in constructing urban circular bioeconomy and enhancing climate adaptation plans for vulnerable communities.

Olivia launched the company in 2019, after learning about the harmful effects of the traditional period industry’s use of conventional cotton and non-cotton materials. Today, healthy LUÜNA period care products are available for subscription online, through retailers including Watsons and in bathrooms of major corporations and schools through the company’s unique dispenser system.

1. Increase education around and adoption of reusable period care products to vastly reduce plastic period waste.

2. Launch subscription service which offers the user a carbon free period by working with partners to offset carbon emissions from the service.

3. Support corporates, schools, brands and organizations to supply eco-friendly period care products.

BAKAR Fariha Salma Deiya is a Hong Kong born Bangladeshi. She is currently an Executive Officer at the Institute of Youth Sustainability Leadership, The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong.

She is pursuing her Master of Laws in Human Rights [LLM(HR)] at the University of Hong Kong (Faculty of Law).

A member of the Commission on Children, she helps to drive work for the benefit of children in relation to policy development regarding research and public engagement, children with specific needs, children protection, rights and development.

Tamsin Heath is currently the Acting British Consul General to Hong Kong and Macao. She assumed the role in December 2020, following the retirement of Andrew Heyn.  The new Consul General is expected to arrive in summer 2021.

She arrived in Hong Kong in August 2019 as Deputy Consul General. Tamsin joined the Diplomatic Service in 2005 as a diplomatic service economist working on economic issues, and as the economist in the Iraq Policy Unit in 2006-2007.  Her first posting was as 2nd Secretary Economic and Trade Policy in Beijing, working on the UK/China Economic and Financial Dialogue, as well as intellectual property issues.

After Beijing, she worked as First Secretary Economic, Energy & Climate Change at the British Embassy in Riyadh, and then as Head of Yemen policy in London, where she acted briefly as Charg d’Affaires in Sana’a in 2013. Between 2013 and 2015 Tamsin was Private Secretary to the FCO Permanent Under Secretary and Head of the Diplomatic Service.

She moved to Hong Kong from The Hague after three years working for the Dutch Development Bank FMO, as Senior Strategy Advisor and Head of Public Affairs.

Before joining the FCO, Tamsin worked for the Chief Economist of the Royal Bank of Scotland group and at HM Treasury. She studied Economics at the University of Cambridge.

Mr Wong Kam-sing

Mr Wong Kam-sing was born in 1963 and graduated from the Department of Architecture of the University of Hong Kong.  He received further education on sustainable built environment in the postgraduate program from the University of British Columbia in Canada.  He assumed the post of the Secretary for the Environment of the HKSAR Government on 1 July 2012.

As an architect by profession, Mr Wong has been promoting sustainable built environment since 1990s.  His designs and researches on sustainable built environment have won him various local, regional and international awards.  He served as the founder Chairman of the Environment and Sustainable Development Committee of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, the Chairman of the Professional Green Building Council and the Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Green Building Council, and has contributed to the promotion and research of the standards and guidelines for sustainable built environment applicable to the high-density urban environment of Hong Kong.

During his tenure as the Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong has launched and updated a number of policy blueprints covering air quality, waste management, energy saving, climate actions and biodiversity.

Mushtaq Kapasi

Shalini Mahtani is one of Hong Kong’s most authoritative and respected voices on social issues, particularly diversity and inclusion and the plight of Hong Kong’s ethnic minorities. Shalini has been a pioneer in civil society working in areas previously untouched in Hong Kong.

She is the founder of The Zubin Foundation, a charity that works to improve the lives of Hong Kong’s marginalised ethnic minorities by providing opportunities and reducing suffering. They are mostly Hong Kong’s poorest Indians, Pakistanis and Nepalis. The Zubin Foundation is among the city’s most accomplished and recognised on issues related to ethnic minorities. The Zubin Foundation works with women and girls in crisis and has the only helpline for them called “Call Mira”, it has the only mental health centre for ethnic minority children and adults in Hong Kong, works with families with special needs children in public schools and offers yearly scholarships for the financially needy to enter tertiary education. Simply put, Shalini works with those that lack visibility and opportunity in Hong Kong who are mostly of South Asian and South East Asian descent. The Zubin Foundation is named after Zubin Mahtani Gidumal, Shalini’s first child who died tragically in 2009.

Alexandra is a director of RIMM Sustainability Pte Ltd in Singapore and sits on a number of corporate and non profit boards in Hong Kong, including Tom Hugh Limited, where she is non executive Chairman, and the Asia Pacific Investors Cooperation.  She is also a director of the Climate Markets & Investment Association in the UK, and an Advisor to the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology’s Asian Family Business Research Centre, Friends of the Earth Hong Kong and the NDCI.org climate commitment community.

From 2013 to 2019, Alexandra was a member of the Listing Committee of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.  She acted as non executive Chairman of the Association for Sustainable & Responsible Investment in Asia for six years, stepping down in 2015, and was instrumental in establishing the Asia Investor Group on Climate Change during this period.

Romain Troublé

Romain Troublé has degrees in 2 different fields — a Master 2 in molecular biology from the Sorbonne, and a Master from HEC – Telecom Paris. As a professional sailor, he participated in regattas at the highest level — twice in the America’s Cup French challenges in 2000 and 2003 in Auckland, NZ. He worked from 2003 to 2006 for a company specialized in polar logistics, organising sporting and scientific expeditions in the Arctic, Antarctica and Siberia, including the discovery of mammoths frozen in permafrost. Since 2004 he has been in charge of the operational management of Tara expeditions, and since 2009, executive director of the Tara Ocean Foundation.

Since 2017, Romain has also been president of the Ocean Climate Platform which brings together more than 96 institutions, foundations, companies, and associations working on advocacy for the ocean’s role in issues of climate and biodiversity.

My Sustainability Goals for 2021:

Vegware can be simply recycled together with food waste after use; which helps significant carbon footprint divert in the landfill. Ie, the recycled sugarcane used to make Vegware’s takeaway boxes has 99 percent less embodied carbon dioxide than polystyrene. Our goal is to grow composting regions including close the loop through promoting compostable disposables.

He has experience on improving company’s sustainability performance, enhancing internal policies and guidelines, driving more effective environmental, social and governance disclosure, engaging with internal stakeholders and identifying collaboration opportunities with like-minded partners. He was also involved in the development of the company’s Sustainable Luxury Vision 2030, which covers emerging topics such as climate risks, sustainable building, circular economy, responsible sourcing, animal welfare, modern slavery, diversity and inclusion, and community investment.
