Free Periods Hong Kong

Co-founder and Director

Joyce Fung is a passionate advocate for menstrual health and equity, serving as the Director and Co-Founder of Free Periods Hong Kong, a charity dedicated to tackling period poverty and enhancing menstrual experiences for diverse communities, including low-income groups, Migrant Domestic Workers, and individuals with disabilities. With a vision that every menstrual cycle should be barrier-free, Joyce has been instrumental in driving initiatives that address public health, gender equality, and social justice.

An MPhil graduate in Social Sciences from the University of Hong Kong (2021), Joyce’s journey began in 2016 with the founding of MenstruAction as part of her undergraduate final-year project. What started as an academic endeavour evolved into a sustained movement to raise awareness about menstrual health and break down societal taboos surrounding menstruation. Her work highlights the intersections of menstruation with critical issues such as period poverty, public health, and social equity.

Since co-founding Free Periods Hong Kong in 2019, Joyce has led efforts to provide accessible menstrual resources and advocate for systemic change, ensuring that menstruators from all walks of life are supported.
