As a provider of public transport services for all, social inclusion is at the core of MTR’s values and mission. With this dedication in mind, MTR Corporation launched its “MTR ‧ Care” App to provide a convenient and accessible dedicated app service to encourage the mobility of the elderly and passengers with special needs. The app features simplified interfaces for elderly passengers, in-station navigation for the visually impaired, wheelchair portable ramp booking, and non-emergency In-station Assistance for hearing-impaired customers, making their journeys smoother, facilitating better planning, and ensuring inclusivity across all our services.
MTR has advanced technology solutions for hearing-impaired passengers, notably through the Bluetooth Door Closing Pre-indicator, which received a silver award at the 49th International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva. This initiative utilises Bluetooth Low-Energy technology to provide visual alerts for passengers before platform doors close, enabling hearing-impaired passengers to navigate their surroundings with confidence and ease.
Expanding its reach beyond Hong Kong, MTR (Shenzhen) has launched an “In-Station Navigation System” at Shenzhen North Station on Shenzhen Line 4. This innovative system seamlessly integrates AI image recognition with augmented reality technology, providing passengers with a real-time and intuitive wayfinding through smart terminals and mobile devices. The system has already assisted over 20,000 journeys, advancing MTR (Shenzhen) ESG commitments by enhancing accessibility, alleviating congestion, and promoting sustainable, intelligent urban mobility.
MTR remains steadfast in its commitment to providing a safe, affordable, accessible, and sustainable transport network for all. Together, we are shaping more inclusive communities and keeping our cities moving.
