Hydrogen energy is regarded as a low-carbon energy with development potential, as the world is striving to phase out fossil fuels and accelerate energy transition to tackle the challenge of climate change. China has also stated clearly that hydrogen would be an important component of the national energy system in the future. Therefore, seizing the opportunities brought about by hydrogen energy development can help Hong Kong strive towards carbon neutrality, develop a new quality productive force and maintain international competitiveness.
The session today will focus on the buildup of the Hydrogen Society in Hong Kong, by introducing the hydrogen industry chain, from hydrogen production to hydrogen utilization.

Curtis gained his engineering background from Imperial College London with a focus on renewable energy. As Head of Strategy at Zemission, Curtis drives the development and implementation of hydrogen technology. Previously, he led the implementation of Hong Kong’s first hydrogen-powered EV charger, which extracts hydrogen from towngas. Additionally, Curtis serves as Director of PADEL+, the first padel club in Hong Kong. With a background in engineering consultancy, Curtis is committed to advancing sustainable energy technologies.
My Sustainability Goals for 2024:
Curtis hopes to see Hong Kong accelerate the adoption of hydrogen and green hydrogen projects in 2024–2025. He envisions increased use of alternative fuels in electricity generation and the launch of pilot projects focused on decentralized power generation. These steps would significantly advance the city’s sustainability and energy resilience.
