Proper Maintenance of Solar Energy Systems is Key to Maximizing Efficiency and Sustainability

Hong Kong has set an ambitious target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, and solar energy is a cornerstone of this vision. However, without regular and professional maintenance, solar power systems can suffer from significant efficiency losses, leading to wasted energy, reduced financial returns, and even premature system failure. Studies show that dust, shading, and degradation can reduce PV system output by 15–25% if left unaddressed. Real-world cases in Hong Kong further demonstrate how neglecting maintenance undermines both environmental and economic benefits.

To address this pressing issue, Community Green Academy and CarbonCare InnoLab jointly hosted a “Solar System Management: Hong Kong Experience and Future Prospects” webinar on 5 March 2025. The event also spotlighted their collaborative “Solar Photovoltaic (PV) System Management & Sustainable Development Programme” Course, which aims to equip professionals with the skills to optimize PV system performance through proactive maintenance and sustainable practices.

The course is supported by Hong Kong Playground Association and has been categorized as an “Official Non-core” learning activity under the Property Management Services Authority’s (PMSA) Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Scheme. Property Management Practitioner Licence holders can earn up to 4 CPD hours by completing the programme.

Community Green Academy will provide practical knowledge and insights on adopting, implementing and maximizing the benefits of solar energy.
