‘Train’ For Life’s Journeys 2.0 places students right ‘On Track to Thrive’

With Advancements & Opportunities as one of MTR’s Environmental & Social objectives, MTR has been spearheading future skill development through its ‘Train’ for Life’s Journeys 2.0 Youth Programme. The programme equips the next generation with future skills and innovative capacity through a series of e-courses, bootcamps, mentoring sessions and idea validation. With over 30 educational institutions and 2,000 secondary youth involved since 2023, the programme encouraged students to ideate solutions for real-life challenges faced by underserved communities in Hong Kong.

The programme culminates in a ‘Social Innovation Challenge’ competition, where 260 students from various secondary schools formed a total of 65 teams to take part in the competition under the programme this year. The students were encouraged to propose innovative solutions using knowledge gained from the programme to address real-life challenges in society relating to MTR’s social inclusion objectives: Disability inclusion, ethnic diversity, gender equality and inter-generational relationships.

The winning teams were also given the opportunities to participate in overseas study tours to Melbourne, Beijing and Hangzhou, where they learnt about MTR’s ESG and technology applications in business operations, and experienced the local cultures.

MTR is especially delighted to see our students’ ideas taking shape within our operations, none more so than the standout innovation from the 2024 competition. The winning team developed an innovative solution for disability inclusion, proposing innovative technology to provide vital information to visually impaired passengers. This idea is now being developed for a trial run on MTR buses, turning student vision into real-world impact!

By providing students with a wealth of opportunities for future skill development, MTR aspires to unlock the full potential of the leaders of tomorrow.
