In 2019, Civic Exchange (CE) convened HK2050isNow, a flagship initiative aiming to inspire ambition and mobilise action for Hong Kong to transition towards carbon neutrality by 2050. HK2050isNow combines climate research and climate action under one umbrella, with an intention to fast-track collective efforts and communicate that ambitious action can generate positive opportunities for the economy and for the liveability of Hong Kong.

Mr Evan Au Yang is the Group President of Animoca Brands, a Hong Kong-based multinational blockchain technology and investment company focused on developing the digital property rights ecosystem, including play-to-earn games, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), decentralized finance (DeFi), blockchain marketplaces, infrastructure and more.

Mr Au Yang is also the Chairman of the Board of Civic Exchange, a non-partisan public policy think tank. He serves as an Independent Non-Executive Director on three boards: the Urban Renewal Authority, Sun Hung Kai & Co. Ltd., and Asia Financial Holdings Limited. He is an Advisor for Our Hong Kong Foundation, and serves on the Innovation and Technology Advisory Committee of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the Transport Policy Committee of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, the Development Fund Committee of the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, the Advisory Council for Institute at Brown for Environment and Society for Brown University, as well as the Board of Advisors of Hong Kong 2050 is Now. In addition, Mr Au Yang is a lecturer at the Hong Kong Academy of Politics and Public Policy.

Bon Cheung is a Research Assistant at Civic Exchange, focusing on transition finance development in the Greater Bay Area (GBA). Concurrently, Bon is researching GBA’s sustainable finance development with academia in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).

Though he is just a final year student in HKUST, he has developed profound experience on ESG investing, reporting and researching by working in an ESG consulting firm, investment bank, research institute etc.. He was the first batch of candidates who obtained the designation of Green and Sustainable Finance Professional ™ from the Chartered Banker Institute. Since then, Bon has been publishing sustainable finance blogs on LinkedIn and major newspapers in Hong Kong.

My Sustainability Goals for 2022:

Collective action is essential to drive impactful changes. I have always had the vision that Hong Kong should utilize its role as the center of sustainable finance to accelerate the decarbonizing work in the GBA and Greater China. This year, I will jointly publish a couple of papers with professionals in different domains to facilitate the collaboration between Hong Kong and other GBA cities, in terms of sustainable policy developments and taxonomy building.

Karina Chow is a Research Analyst at Civic Exchange, focusing on the decarbonization of the building sector and the Greater Bay Area. Her interest lies in public policy and hopes to address Hong Kong’s environmental problems through research-based, impactful policies. Karina holds a BSc in Environmental Management and Technology from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Lawrence Iu is Executive Director at Civic Exchange. As a professional environmental strategist, he has profound experience in crafting climate change models and impactful public policies. His current focuses are on policy action in Energy, Building Energy Efficiency and Mobility. He has successfully built a platform with public, corporate and government stakeholders to craft an inclusive transition plan with strong buy-in.

In his previous roles in a multinational corporation and a higher institution, Lawrence led environmental sustainability and occupational health & safety projects across Asia Pacific and coordinated emerging technology management, circular economy and green chemistry research.

My Sustainability Goals for 2022:

Despite these difficult times, we must remain forward looking and anticipate the time of recovery. Even more so, we are now in a favourable position to make fundamental policy decisions to rethink our economic model, making it fit for a low carbon missions world, and to set course for a better, sustainable, and more liveable future for Hong Kong.
