To enhance community living and ensure a safer, more reassuring environment across generations, stakeholders including the government, business sector, and social welfare sector are jointly promoting Hong Kong as an age-friendly city. Dr. Amanda Chow is a dedicated advocate for gerontology with over 23 years of experience in education, professional training, and eldercare innovation. Dr. Chow’s commitment to fostering age-friendly communities is exemplified by her role as the Convenor of the Age-Friendly Community initiative and as a Committee Member of the Specialized Committee on Elderly Service (SpE) under the Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS). Her tireless efforts continue to inspire others and contribute to creating a society where older adults can thrive with dignity and respect.

My Sustainability Goals for 2025:

I hope to see Hong Kong become a society that fully embraces gerontology principles, ensuring older adults and their caregivers can age with dignity, connection, and resilience. To achieve this, my focus is on three key goals:

  1. Launch an Age-Friendly Housing Management Scheme to foster supportive and connected living environments, addressing loneliness and promoting community interactions among older adults.
  2.  Enhance the quality of residential care services through accreditation programs, including RACAS, SAEH, the Star Certification and Restraint Reduction Programme , ensuring elderly residents receive compassionate, high-standard care.
  3.  Strengthen the resilience of formal and informal caregivers by equipping them with the skills and support needed to combat the emotional and physical challenges of caregiving, reducing feelings of hopelessness and isolation for both caregivers and the elderly.

  2. Leadership training that includes wellbeing, not just technical skills.
  3. Organizations actively investing in the long-term wellbeing of their people, not just their infrastructure.
