Founded in 2020, E Farm Biotech Limited (EFB) is Hong Kong’s first commercial farm to raise black soldier flies, pioneering efficient food waste conversion technology that supports a circular economy. The company is backed by the Recycling Fund of the Hong Kong Government and the CityU HK Tech 300 Angel Fund. EFB helps reduce landfill pressure by upcycling food waste into high-value resources such as animal feed and compost for agricultural use, while also advancing black soldier fly research to explore niche by-products.

Our sustainability goals for 2026:

  1. Expand operational capacity to process and upcycle 10 tonnes of local food waste daily by 2026.
  2. ⁠Establish a sustainable local protein supply chain by integrating BSF-formulated feed into Hong Kong’s poultry industry – through our sustainable food brand BSF chicken.
  3. Invest in R&D to explore and commercialize high-value BSF by-products, such as antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) and chitin, for the pharmaceutical or cosmetic industries.
  4. Reach 500 students and community members annually through BSF STEM programmes and educational outreach.
  5. Achieve a measurable reduction in the carbon footprint of animal feed production compared to traditional fishmeal or soybean alternatives.
