In June 2024 we celebrated our 12th Bread Run Anniversary, one of our most popular food rescue and volunteer initiatives. This iconic programme provides an opportunity for everyone to get involved in collecting delicious freshly made breads, pastries, baked goods, or even sandwiches, wraps and salads at the end of each day, to help feed vulnerable communities and save quality food from landfill, all in one bite!.
Our ‘grab n go’ Bread Run volunteering experience runs 52 weeks of the year, and we partner with some of the best bakeries and sandwich shops in Hong Kong who are mindful of their impact on society and the environment.
Last year over 1,500 individual volunteers signed up to our Bread Run programme, which allows them to pick up the donations from their selected local bakery and bring the items directly to the Feeding Hong Kong warehouse, for prompt redistribution the next day.
Our charity beneficiaries love this source of fresh, tasty, wholesome food and treats. In fact, more than 50 charity partners are signed up to receive this fresh food. “Bread is a daily necessity. We are so very grateful to receive this donation from Feeding Hong Kong.”
The Bread Run is a tasty recipe for protecting the environment at the same time as caring for our community. In 2023, this programme alone rescued 38 tonnes of fresh bread, sandwiches and salads which potentially saved over 70 tonnes of CO2 emissions. This unique donation concept really does demonstrate how we can feed people, not landfills, thanks to our generous partners and a very enthusiastic team of breadrunners!
