FSC Solutions: Responsible Sourcing, Regulatory Compliance and Verified Impact

The Earth Overshoot Day calculated that in 2024, the average person will have used up the natural resources of around 1.7 Earths. Resource consumption currently outstrips our planet’s natural regenerative capacity. On August 01, 2024, we finished consuming the resources that should have lasted until the end of this calendar year.

It is clear why this is a problem, and our collective effort must focus on creating a more sustainable economic growth model and scaling up a circular economy.

Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) works as a tool to promote sustainable consumption and production and, as such, contributes to SDG 12. Through our work across environmental, social and governance (ESG) themes, pivoted on responsible sourcing, the FSC model is well-placed to effectively restore, enhance, and protect biodiversity through forest certification while strengthening the business case for responsible sourcing in crucial value chains like rubber, tropical timber, textiles, packaging, etc., especially – all this in the context of the fast-paced Asia-Pacific markets.

Our work on Ecosystem Services and Verified Impact unlocks high-quality forest data to monitor, conserve, and improve efforts worldwide in six categories: carbon, biodiversity, soil, water, recreation, and cultural services.

FSC contributes to SDG targets, company reporting, and global consumer awareness to further drive action on both responsible production and consumption.

Today, global regulatory pressures require sustainable sourcing for market access, thus making companies more conscious about their supply. FSC certification allows businesses and consumers to source from well-managed forests, providing a vast array of responsibly produced materials for construction, such as tyres, wood panels, floorings, furniture, paper, etc. Companies commit to the FSC system, knowing that their action is a step in the right direction to protect the future of forests for all, forever.
