CityFM is at the forefront of decarbonization in the facilities sector, aligning with both global and local environmental policies. Energy initiatives and innovative refrigeration designs have been implemented with partners in Hong Kong, all aimed at supporting the Kigali Amendment and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
A key innovation introduced by City into Hong Kong is the Smart Waterloop refrigeration system. This system uses water as a cooling medium, reducing refrigerant consumption by up to 90% and significantly cutting Scope 1 emissions. By leveraging Internet of Things (IoT) technology, energy efficiency is optimized and environmental impact is reduced.
In addition to refrigeration innovations, City have implemented energy-saving systems across more than a thousand retail outlets in Hong Kong. Initiatives such as Variable Speed Drives (VSD), Compressor Management, Gas Leak Detection, and Food Temperature Monitoring have been introduced to reduce Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. The use of IoT technology facilitates remote monitoring and management of energy equipment, enhancing efficiency. These measures are anticipated to save 23 million kWh of energy and decrease CO2e emissions by 59,649 tons per year across the sites.
City’s mission is to ensure short term compliance to policies whilst also setting our partners up for long-term sustainable success. City recognize the shared goal of carbon neutrality for everyone in the ecosystem, and we are eager to collaborate with the industry and serve Hong Kong citizens to build a sustainable future.
