Founder and Head of Board Training
The world has changed, and companies these days need a board that has a board-level mental model of corporate energy affairs, and of what business energy use is really about. Middle-management mental model thinking in the boardroom puts a company and its long-term investors at a distinct disadvantage.
Robert Allender took his 35 years of helping companies master their energy affairs and turned it into a board training work session to give boards that mental model.
As a professional board trainer, Robert gives boards a slate of new perspectives with which to judge the perpetual trade-offs between the business continuity challenges, the opex and capex challenges, and the more recently emerged challenges of decarbonisation, the energy transition, Scope 3, and the energy-and-carbon half of ESG reporting, all of which have energy use at their core.
Clients for Robert’s board training work session have come from across the world, but Hong Kong has been his home since 1989. He has a business degree from Cornell University, and has been a speaker and writer on corporate energy affairs (CEA) and related topics since 1992. He is regularly invited to serve as conference chair, awards judge, MBA guest lecturer, and association and charity director.
My Sustainability Goals for 2026:
In keeping with my personal mission of giving all listed company boards a board-level mental model of their company’s energy affairs, I hope 2026 is the year such a new perspective becomes a hallmark of Hong Kong listed companies, one that the city is widely praised for. The flow-on benefits will accrue to simply everyone.
