Operationalizing Sustainability: Developing Climate Mitigation and Adaptation Programs for HKEX IFRS and ESRS requirements

As climate-related reporting requirements under HKEX, IFRS and ESRS continue to evolve, companies are expected to demonstrate not only disclosure readiness but credible implementation. This workshop explores how organizations can operationalize sustainability by developing integrated climate mitigation and adaptation programs that translate reporting requirements into business action. Participants will learn how transition planning can support climate mitigation through GHG inventory forecasting, how to assess and quantify decarbonization levers, develop company-specific decarbonization scenarios in line with climate targets. The session will also address climate risk and resilience, including how to assess physical and transition risks and develop adaptation measures that strengthen long-term business resilience. With a focus on practical implementation steps for sustainability practitioners, how to use software for managing the data for disclosure but also active ESG management. The workshop connects regulatory expectations with decision-making across governance, finance, operations, procurement and risk management.

Session Learnings:

  • Learn about requirements for both HKEX, IFRS and ESRS in regards to climate risk, GHG accounting, GHG targets and climate transition planning
  • Get insights into best practice and conceptual understanding on how to develop a corporate climate transition plans
  • Transition planning methodology, including GHG inventory forecasting, decarbonization scenarios and quantified reduction levers.
  • Climate risk assessment, resilience analysis and adaptation program development
  • Acquire knowledge on implementing these programs in your organization across governance, finance, procurement, operations and risk management beyond compliance to create sustainability initiatives creating business value.

  • Baseline to create your company-specific plan for a regulatory-ready climate adaptation and climate transition plan for HKES, IFRS and ESRS

Stefan Premer is Senior Director within Sphera’s Consulting Organization, where he leads the Corporate Sustainability Consulting department. He manages teams focused on ESG and corporate sustainability strategy, advising organizations on evolving sustainability requirements, regulatory developments, and reporting frameworks such as CSRD and IFRS.

Stefan has deep expertise in climate strategy development and corporate carbon accounting, including quantified transition planning and climate risk modelling. He has supported companies in developing and operationalizing sustainability strategies, automating sustainability processes, and implementing large-scale strategic sustainability projects across sectors.

At present, Stefan is an ISO committee member for “Quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions and removals at organizational level,” contributing to the GHG Protocol update, as well as “Greenhouse gas and climate change management and related activities – Mitigation.”

Stefan is based in Zürich, Switzerland, and holds an M.Sc. in Business Administration, specializing in Strategy and Management in International Organizations, from Linköping University in Sweden.
