SOS diverts furniture from landfill to create state-of-the-art classroom for the Wong Tai Sin community

Sustainable Office Solutions Ltd (SOS) together with JEB Group and the Artificial Intelligence & Social Intelligence Alliance (AISIA) launched the AI and SI Classroom at Lok Sin Tong Yu Kan Hing Secondary School, a public-funded school in Wong Tai sin.

The ceremony celebrated the first successful circular furniture collaboration between the business, social and education sectors, which saw over 400 furniture pieces saved from landfill and repurposed.

SOS offers a specialised service that facilitates a circular economy diverting office furniture waste from landfills via redistribution, repurposing and recycling. SOS was brought on board for this project and helped to secure sponsorship and donations from key financial institutions to enable the school to receive high quality used chairs, lockers, tables, TV and microwaves.

The pieces came together in an innovative classroom that will provide a creative and stimulating environment for its students, senior students and the elderly.

In total more than 11 tonnes of office and construction waste from both corporations’ unwanted office furniture pieces were saved from ending up in Hong Kong’s landfills with 47.5% being reused and redistributed and 52.5% being successfully recycled. Throughout the process and thanks to its circular economy solution, SOS were also able to successfully prevent 17,361kgCO2e (the equivalent of 36 flights) worth of carbon emissions from ending up in the atmosphere.

The Ai Lab project is just the start of many to come. SOS will continue to work with companies to facilitate a circular economy of office assets and help serve the greater good in Hong Kong. If you would like to know more please contact info@sos-actions.com.
