Sustainability is often discussed as a goal for businesses to work towards. At Mystic Island Winery, we believe it is most effective when it shapes a business from the very beginning.
When our founders, Rita Kung and Kuo Chuan Kung, began developing the estate in Qiushan Valley, their ambition extended beyond producing fine wine. They wanted to create something that respected the land, worked in harmony with nature and brought lasting value to the surrounding community.
This principle influenced how the vineyard and winery were planned. The estate combines regenerative vineyard management, biodiversity protection and responsible water use with a gravity-fed winery, energy-efficient design and carefully considered materials. These decisions were made not as separate environmental initiatives, but as interconnected parts of how the estate would operate.
The same thinking extends to people. By providing stable employment, developing local talent and creating opportunities connected to viticulture, winemaking and hospitality, the winery contributes to the long-term vitality of the community around it.
Building sustainability into a business from the outset is not always the easiest or least expensive path. It can require greater investment, more time and more care. Yet it also creates stronger foundations for the future.
For Mystic Island Winery, sustainability is not something added to the story. It is part of how the story began—and how we hope it will continue for generations to come.
