The Hong Kong Bird Watching Society

Booth:T11

Founded in 1957, The Hong Kong Bird Watching Society (HKBWS) started as an “ornithological society” and has now become an environmental organization devoted to promote appreciation and conservation of wild birds through research, habitat management, environmental monitoring, policy advocacy and education. Our ultimate goal is to protect our bird paradise where people and birds can live in harmony as nature continues to thrive.

Our sustainability goals for 2024:

  •  Conserve wild birds and their habitats in Hong Kong and along the East Asian-Australasian Flyway through regular monitoring of birds and developments and constant dialogue with relevant local and regional stakeholders.
  •  Collaborate with local communities (including fishpond operators, farmers and villagers) to manage land and environment in an eco-friendly manner for the benefit of biodiversity, at the same time respecting and preserving the local traditions and culture.
  •  Promote eco-friendly products including agriculture and fisheries produce to empower the local community and to facilitate a sustainable local green economy.
  • Provide equal opportunities for marginalized or less privileged groups to personally experience and appreciate nature through bird watching activities, in hope of building a diverse, equal, and inclusive community

UN SDG goals that we align with:

  • SDG 3 Good Health and Well-being
  • SDG 4 Quality Education
  • SDG 10 Reduced Inequalities
