Gerrit Bunt’s expertise lies in ship operations and fleet management, with extensive practical, design, and theoretical experience in emerging fuels like LNG, methanol, and ammonia, as well as in digitalization, including the design, testing, and operation of technical simulations and digital twins.
With 20 years of experience at sea, holding both chief engineer and master licenses, Gerrit has spent 13 years in ship and fleet management for owners.
Additionally, he has five years of experience developing and reviewing operational standards and designs for decarbonization systems, including new energy systems across various vessel types.
In the past two years, he has focused on building his business development expertise to facilitate the implementation of innovative technologies, with the goal of enhancing compliance within today’s increasingly complex regulatory landscape.

Karim Fahssis is heading decarbonization for Maersk in China.
As a global provider of end-to-end logistics services with the ambition to achieve carbon net zero transport by 2040, it is a strategic imperative for Maersk that we develop and identify the solutions which will enable us to deliver on our aspirations.
His main focus is on securing production and sourcing of green methanol in China in time for the delivery of Maersk new vessels. He also advises Maersk’s landside department on its decarbonization journey.
Karim Fahssis is an energy engineer by training and an entrepreneur having considerable experience with renewable energy projects. He has a strong technical background and a thorough understanding of the concepts and standards relevant to decarbonization. A French national, Karim Fahssis has been a resident of China since 2005 with his family in China. He speaks Chinese fluently.
He holds a double master’s degree in mechanical engineering and fluid dynamics from Centrale Nantes engineering school (France) and energy management from the Xi’an Jiaotong University (China).
He was awarded by the MIT Technology Review as the “Innovator of the year 2014” for introducing disruptive software technologies to the global wind energy industry with a focus on prospecting superior resource sites and delivering bankable energy yield assessments.

Having served at The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) for over 30 years, Felix Lee’s extensive experience spans green energy development, ESG, supply chain management, procurement, and logistics.
In his current role focused on the commercial aspects of green methanol and green fuels, Mr. Lee is dedicated to advancing sustainable energy solutions. In the past, he has led the Group in formulating strategies to address climate and nature-related risks and opportunities. Additionally, under Mr. Lee’s leadership, he organised Hong Kong’s first nationwide biodiversity forum, responding to the Chinese and Hong Kong governments’ commitment to achieving a low-carbon economy and environmental conservation.
Mr. Lee is a member of professional associations such as the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in the UK.
Additionally, Mr. Lee holds a Master of Business Administration degree and a Bachelor of Social Sciences degree from the University of Hong Kong.

Dr Leung joined HKUST in January 2025. Prior to this appointment, he was the Principal Assistant Secretary (Air Policy) at the Environment and Ecology Bureau and Assistant Director (Air Policy) at the Environmental Protection Department of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Dr Leung obtained a PhD in mechanical engineering from Imperial College London and has over 30 years of professional experience in combustion science, air quality science, air quality management, environmental impact assessment, climate change, electric vehicles and new energy applications.

After 14 years at sea, started his shore-based journey as a new building supervisor. He has been in the technical ship management space for 19 years, including plan approvals of new buildings. Passionate about alternate fuels and the ongoing energy revolution, he has been for the past 6 years, Head of Decarbonisation at Pacific Basin Shipping (Hong Kong) Ltd strategizing and implementing energy saving initiatives and presently heading the alternate dual fuel methanol new building team as well.
