Deputy Director of Environmental Protection
Dr Vanessa Au is the Deputy Director of Environmental Protection of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. She is responsible for implementing the statutory environmental impact assessments, integrating environmental considerations into infrastructure development and planning, overseeing environmental compliance and enforcement, and managing water quality and sewerage infrastructure. Vanessa had worked in various divisions and had been responsible for different environmental portfolios, including waste reduction, community recycling, air pollution control, and air quality monitoring. Before taking up her current appointment, Vanessa served as the Assistant Director (Air Quality Management) and Assistant Director (Waste Reduction and Recycling).
My Sustainability Goal for 2026:
To forge public-private synergies by establishing regulatory frameworks and cross-sector partnerships that transform waste management into an economically resilient resource recovery industry, driving Hong Kong towards a truly circular economy and carbon neutrality by 2050.
