Our mission is to understand how our environmental and economic systems are evolving, and to take those insights as a starting point to protect biodiversity, natural resources, reduce system stresses and build environmental resilience. Four themes permeate all of our work: biodiversity, natural resources, climate change and finance.

Hong Kong 2050 is Now is a Hong Kong-based platform for education, collaboration, and action on the climate crisis. We seek to inspire ambitious target setting, induce behavior change, and mobilise collective action towards a carbon-neutral Hong Kong.

Our initiative in accelerating sustainable development in Hong Kong:

1. Educate and engage the public on the risks and opportunities facing Hong Kong in an age of climate crisis, based on rigorous scientific and policy research.
2. Encourage personal, corporate and government action to be undertaken now in combating the climate crisis, including personal lifestyle, business best practice, and regulatory change.
3. Aggregate the efforts of stakeholders working towards the vision of a Net-Zero carbon Hong Kong, leveraging existing grassroot and community movements to further catalyse their impact.

Founded in September 2018, Hong Kong Green Finance Association (HKGFA) creates a platform that offers channels and opportunities to facilitate the development of green finance and sustainable investments in Hong Kong and beyond. It aims to mobilize both public and private sectors resources and talents in developing green finance policies, to promote green finance business and product innovation.

HKGFA’s key activities are organised through five working groups, namely Banking – Financing the Transition, Product Innovation and Solutions, Sustainability-related Disclosures, Policy and Standards, Greater Bay Area Green Finance Alliance, and Real Estate. The Hong Kong Container Terminal Operators Association Limited (HKCTOA) was established in 1999. Its mission is to coordinate the efforts of its members to enhance the efficiency and the competitiveness of the Port, promoting Hong Kong as a key regional transshipment hub.

Climate change is a mega challenge for the world, leading to various disasters such as heatwaves, floods and hurricanes. These climate-induced natural disasters have caused significant environmental, economic, social, and health consequences. It is now a consensus of the society that climate change must be stopped.
Carbon neutrality is expected to address climate change challenges, and its achievement requires the collective efforts of various industries and sectors. The building and construction sector is a big energy consumer and greenhouse gas emitter as they are responsible for 37% of the global energy-related emissions, demonstrating significant opportunities to achieve of carbon neutrality. Consequently, there is an urgent need to achieve net zero carbon performance in the built environment.
Green retrofit is the sustainable refurbishment of an existing building to make it more efficient, better for the environment and sustainable for the future. When it comes to building envelope retrofitting, improving the energy efficiency of existing buildings is the key to reduce the carbon footprint. It usually involves installing better insulation, energy-efficient glazing, and more efficient lighting.
To further reduce carbon footprint, we can consider adding alternative energy sources for our power supply. Solar power is one of the renewable energy sources that heats and cools the indoor space and provides electricity. Installation of BIPV or solar panels on the roof of a building or incorporate them into the wall cladding of building facades is becoming increasingly affordable, and it is a great way to reduce the carbon footprint.

Founded in 2009, HKGCSE enthusiastic in social enterprises affairs.
